Summer in Tahoe

Man oh man…. summer has flown by SO FAST. I am not ready for it to be over!! We are on our final “summer push” in Tahoe this weekend. Camping, biking, and visiting friends have highlighted my final week of freedom before schools starts up again!! But I know I’m only kidding myself, the school year and the student life are pretty amazing and enable LOTS of freedom and I am taking full advantage. I’m just surprised it’s all starting up again so soon. It’s been an interesting year since school began last fall – at this time I was planning my World Cup/Olympic comeback. The effort that I put into that and the support I received were enormous. Tearing my knee again was heartbreaking and still hurts. When it comes to injuries, it is what it is. You can’t go back, you can’t change anything, and you can’t worry about that too much or else it will consume you. Last winter was a tough pill to swallow, but I think I’ve made up for whatever I missed or didn’t miss by having an amazing summer. Like all injury recoveries, the excitement to get out there and attack activities with even more vigour than ever has been the case for me this summer. I worked hard to get my knee and my whole body back into the shape that I like through biking, yoga, and running. I had a slalom dream the other night and finally feel ready to jump back into a course! (Although, it won’t be for a few more months…) But for real, my knee really turned a corner last month and I am feeling confident it my ability to attack outdoor activities!

Many people have been asking me what I am doing this year, and the answer is that I am still racing! I am still on the Westminster Ski Team and intend to race at least the college circuit and a couple of FIS races – and at most the Nor-Ams and nationals and all the fun stuff. It’s still hard for me to know where my knee will be at when it comes to slalom. I am feeling strong and excited to race, but also to SKI. I am hoping to expand my ski career into some more fun stuff and truly explore Utah’s skiing to the fullest! My backcountry setup is calling my name and taking the Avalanche 1 course is in my plans for this winter. Working more with Helly Hansen and really taking advantage of the freedom that student life offers will dictate most of my winter plans. I’m also excited to learn some new things in: Theory of mircroeconomics, business and employment law, professional selling, and psychology. I’m taking a full 16 credit load this fall and am still double-majoring in economics and marketing. Also continuing to work with SkiPresse and possibly some more SISTERHOOD adventures!

Anyway, that’s a quick update! Check out some pics from one of our favourite camping spots in Tahoe –>
